Primark Glitter Junkie Eye Shadow Palette

Primark Beauty has become a huge success and is taking over the blogging scene. I have only began shopping in Penneys very lately (I know, I know. Am I even Irish like?). So far, I've bought four of their acrylic beauty drawers (which are fab as jewellery boxes), both their oval and round acrylic cotton pad holders, cotton pads, makeup brush holders, eyeshadow shields, a mixing palette, blender sponges, etc., and I have to say that I am very impressed. One thing I had never even considered trying, however, was their cosmetics range. I'm not sure why, but I just had the mindset that they would be pretty poor quality, especially considering the price.

Recently, I won a giveaway on Instagram ran by the lovely Lauren Kennedy from Wonderful and Wicked (check her blog out here). Included was The Confidence Kit by Caroline Foran and quite a few bits from Penneys. Of course, when my parcel arrived, I was quite excited to have a play around with everything, but I was intrigued by the Glitter Junkie eye shadow palette and the K-POP 5 piece brush set. After experimenting over the past few weeks and creating quite a few looks, I feel that I am able to write an honest review about my experience with this palette.

Before you read any further, you have to remember that this is a budget palette. At €6, it is almost an eighth of the price of my well-loved bareMinerals palettes, which you can read about here. In saying that, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the quality is actually quite good.

Packaging - The packaging is very simple, but obviously, the price reflects that. In saying that, it's by no means ugly. It's quite nice actually - matte white with iridescent silver details. There is a magnetic closure which is always good to protect the shadows. The only minor detail I miss, compared to all my other palettes, is that there's no mirror, but again, for the sake of €6, it's not a big deal. Having no mirror means that it's very lightweight and great for travelling, especially considering the fact that it's a very compact size.

Shades - The Glitter Junkie palette contains nine shades, three of which are matte. The remaining six are gorgeous, shimmery shadows. What I like about this palette is, even though the name would suggest that there's a lot of glitter, there really isn't. Personally, I wouldn't be mad about glitter. I like a little bit of shimmer here and there, but nothing too dramatic, so this palette is perfect for me. The pigment in all nine shadows is really good.

Application - I have no major issues with this palette, other than the fact that there was a tiny bit of fallout from some of the more vibrant shades, but that's nothing that an eyeshadow guard or cotton pad with makeup remover can't fix. I always do my eyes before my face, so this isn't a problem for me. I did notice that the pigmentation toned down slightly after a few hours, but that is most probably because I never use a primer on my lids as I find that it can make the eyeshadow look quite cakey and creased after a while.

The Sciency Stuff - I know that this isn't technically 'sciency' stuff, but all of Primark's own-brand cosmetics are cruelty-free and have recently been awarded the Leaping Bunny certification.

Price - As I have mentioned before, this palette retails for €6. That works out at about €0.67 cents per shade. Sure how can you go wrong?

Conclusion - Considering the price, I am very impressed with the overall quality of this palette. It probably won't replace my bareMinerals palettes, but I can see myself getting quite a lot of use out of it. If you're on a budget and looking for value for money, then this palette is perfect.

Where to buy? - I saw a lot of these palettes in Penneys in Patrick's Street, Cork quite recently, but I don't know for certain if it's still widely available.
